Six days of forest light, winged color, and rich silence, from Kenya’s Kakamega canopies to Uganda’s misty Bwindi trails. Feathers, Frames & Forests is a visual pilgrimage for birders and photographers, designed to spotlight rare species, layered habitats, and the heartbeat of East Africa’s great forests.

Day 1 :
Arrival in Kisumu & Into Kakamega Forest (Kenya)
  • Meet your birding and nature photography guide in Kisumu
  • Transfer to Kakamega Forest Reserve
  • Afternoon canopy walk or forest-edge shoot: turacos, green pigeons, colobus monkeys
  • Overnight at eco-lodge with balcony birding access
Day 2 :
Kakamega Forest Deep Dive
  • Early trail walk focused on great blue turaco, African blue flycatcher, hornbills
  • Understory species in soft morning light: barbets, bee-eaters, forest robins
  • Sunset capture near canopy breaks with layered light and textures
  • Optional nocturnal walk for owl or nightjar sightings
Day 3 :
Cross to Uganda via Sipi Falls
  • Scenic drive across the border to Mount Elgon region
  • Afternoon hike and photography session at Sipi Falls
  • Target highland species: bronze sunbird, tacazze sunbird, cinnamon-chested bee-eater
  • Village interaction with respectful cultural photo opportunities
  • Overnight in lodge overlooking the escarpment
Day 4 :
Into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
  • Drive to Bwindi via rural and forest roads with roadside birding
  • Evening forest walk near lodge: sunbirds, waxbills, forest kingfishers
  • Optional briefing on gorilla tracking routes (if combining with permit add-on)
Day 5 :
Bwindi Birding & Forest Scenes
  • Full-day birding on forest trails and canopy corridors
  • Key targets: African green broadbill, Shelley’s crimsonwing, bar-tailed trogon
  • Macro and environmental photography among mosses, vines, and light shafts
  • Return to lodge for final golden-hour shoot over misty forest edge
Day 6 :
Departure from Entebbe or Extension
  • Transfer to airstrip or overland route to Entebbe
  • Optional final birding stop near wetlands or forest fringe
  • Depart with full camera rolls and feather-filled memories
